With diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise, these women have helped shape the world........
Born in 1954 in West Germany (Wikipedia, 2014).
Family moved to East Germany when she was a baby.
Father - protestant minister - profound impact on her - instilling strong moral code (Marr, 2013).
Mother - teacher.
Childhood affected by major politcal events - erection of the Berlin Wall and the Cold War (Marr, 2013).
Motivated and highly capable student.
Learned to speak fluent Russian while still at school.
Gifted mathematics student (Wikipedia, 2014).
Graduated in 1978 - Degree in Physics.
Earned a PHD in Quantum Chemistry (Marr, 2013).
Cautious (Marr, 2013).
Pragmatic.
Methodical.
Seen by some as ruthless during her rise through the ranks of her political party (Marr, 2013).
2005 - First elected Chancellor of Germany.
1990 - Began her political career.
2000 - Became leader of the Christian Democratic
Union.
First woman to hold either position (Wikipedia, 2014).
Remains Chancellor of Germany having retained these positions over 3 elections.
In 2007, she was President of the European Council and chaired the G8. Only the second woman to so
(Wikipedia, 2014).

Her role as leader of the European Union during Europe's debt crisis which was due to being the head of Europe's strongest economy.

• Her Father Mathew Knowles was Xerox Sales Manager who is African American and her Mother Celestine ‘Tina’ Beyoncé was a hair dresser and is Louisiana Creole descent (Wikipedia, 2014).

• Beyoncé also has a younger sister named Solange who is a recording artist and actress (Wikipedia, 2014).

• In April 2008 she married her partner Jay-Z and in January 2012 they welcomed their first child Blue Ivy Carter (Find the best, 2014).

Beyoncé has been in many movies starting off in Austin Powers Gold Member as Foxxy Cleopatra, followed by The Pink Panther and Dream Girls.

Beyonce also had deals with Pepsi and H&M (Forbes, 2014).

This presentation looks at five women chosen from the Forbes list of 'The World's 100 Most Powerful Women' - Angela Merkel; Michelle Obama; Gina Rinehart; Beyonce Knowles and Aung San Suu Kyi (Forbes, 2013). It provides a brief insight into their background, education, personality, years in the spotlight and what is recognized as the main reason for their fame.
While researching the world's most powerful women, it was found that the amount of available information was immense. The problem was then to ascertain what sources were credible and would provide reliable information. The sites chosen were current, going back no further than three years. It was also important that the sites contained information that was accurate and objective. Comparing a number of sources together with looking at the credentials of the author, gave confidence in the information obtained.
