Michael Jordan (Air Jordan)
Transcript of Michael Jordan (Air Jordan)
Player Profile Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on the 17th of February 1963 in Brooklyn New York
Shortly after his birth his parents believed that the streets of Brooklyn were an unsafe place to raise a family so they moved to Wilmington, North Carolina.
Growing up Michael loved playing sports and fell in love with baseball at a young age. But as the youngest in his family he began to follow in the foot steps of his older brother who loved basketball.
Micheal decided to try out for his high school team but was cut because he was too weak and small. Over the summer he grew four inches and practiced nonstop. All of his hard work paid off as he made the team the following year and averaged 25 points per game and was selected to the McDonald's All-American Team as a senior.
Coming out of high school he would receive a scholarship to North Carolina University and was coach by legendary Dean Smith
In his first year he was named ACC Freshman of the year
He led the Tarheels to the 1982 NCAA Champion ship and made the winning shot. In 1984 he would win the Naismith College Player of the Year. After winning this he decided to leave North Carolina and entre in the NBA draft and was picked third overall by the Chicago Bulls.
In his fist year as a rookie he averaged 28.8 points per game and in some games averaged over 40 points. He was named rookie of the year and was chosen to play in the All-Star game.
Tragedy would strike Michael Jordan’s life in 1993 as his father James was robed and murdered. He would retire at the age of 33 after three consecutive NBA Championships
He took some time to get through the pain of losing his father.
In 1994 he decided to take up baseball and signed a contract with the Chicago White Sox. He only played one season with the Double-A Birmingham Barons but had lost his skills from his earlier ages.
In 1995 Jordan surprised everyone as he made a return to the NBA. After getting beat out by Orlando his first year back, he would then take the Bulls to win three more consecutive NBA Championships giving him the most wins of all time and still stands today.
