An Ibex is a wild goat with long, thick ridged horns and a beard. When did Pyrenean Ibexes become extinct? The Pyrenean Ibex has been extinct since January 2000 but In January 2009, the Pyrenean Ibex was the first species to ever be brought back into existence via cloning, only to go extinct again just seven minutes after being born. Its death was due to lung failure. The last natural Pyrenean Ibex, a female named Celia, was found dead on January 6, 2000, apparently killed by a falling tree. Although her cause of its death is known, the reason for the extinction of the Ibex as a whole is a mystery. Celia: The last one Standing! In what part of the world did Pyrenean Ibex’s live? The Pyrenean Ibex was found in the Pyrenees in France and Spain and the surrounding area, including the Basque Country, Navarre, north Aragon and north Catalonia. Or in the mountains of Ordesa National Park, in Huesca a few 100 years back. What type of ec system did the Pyrenean Ibex live in? The Ibex was paraxonic, meaning the plane of symmetry of each foot passed between the third and fourth digits. The Pyrenean Ibex's third and fourth digits were quite large and bore most of the weight. Grass: F OD! Facts or Characteristics about the Pyrenean Ibex: -Males the horns were thick, and would slope back before curling under and poiting upwards with age. -Females also had horns, which were broad at the base, cylindrical, and curved gently upwards and back. -Ibex were hunted as trophies and for meat and medicinal purposes. -They had to face habitat loss to agriculture and resource competition with domestic goats.
