What is ? (pi) is a Greek letter that is used to represent a special mathematical constant. It is the circumference of circle divided by its diameter. is an irrational number. That means it is a non-terminating, non-repeating decimal. There are three kinds of decimals:
terminating, e.g. 0.124
repeating, e.g. 0.333333333....
non-terminating and non-repeating, e.g. =3.14159...

The first two are called rational numbers. The last one is called an irrational number. Analogy:

What is an example of a song that is
analogous to a terminating decimal;
analogous to a repeating decimal;
analogous to an irrational number? Answer for terminating decimal:
Almost any song that you can think of. Answer for repeating decimal:
Any song that repeats itself over and over without ending would be analogous to a repeating decimal.

Answer for an irrational number:

Any song that goes on and on without ending but does not repeat would be analogous to an irrational number. Other examples of irrational numbers:
e = 2.71828183... (or Euler's number) is used in compound interest problems.
(phi) = (or the Golden Ratio) was discovered by the ancient Greeks. It is seen in nature, art and mathematics.
or the square root of any number that is not a perfect square. So this is neat and all but why are we talking about it?
There is no better way to celebrate pi day than with pie! E.g. Justin Bieber's "Baby" is analogous to a terminating decimal because it ends. E.g. "This is the song that never ends,
It just goes on and on, my friends.
Some people started singing it not knowing what it was,
And they'll continue singing it forever just because
This is the song that never ends,
It just goes on and on, my friends.
Some people started singing it not knowing what it was,
And they'll continue singing it forever just because... " E.g. "This is the ______ that never ends,
It just goes on and on, my _______.
Some ______ started singing it not knowing what it was,
And they'll continue singing it forever just because ..."

Though it has a pattern to it, since it would never fully repeat, as long as we fill in the spaces with new words, it would be analogous to an irrational number. Because today is day!
