This word is only one of many words have multiple meanings!

A multiple meaning word is a word that can have more than one meaning.

Sometimes, a reader must stop and determine the meaning of the word to understand that the author is trying to say.
Can you solve this riddle?

To help us understand multiple meaning words, we can draw a picture of what the word means in context of the sentence.

Read the sentences, then look at the bolded words. Draw a picture on your index card to show the meaning of the bolded word.

There are two types of multiple meaning words:
1. some may sound alike (homonyms) like, "
Scale

2. some may sound different like, "I drove down the
windy
road on a
windy
day."
Multiple meaning words may have different capitalization, punctuation, parts of speech, tense, or degrees (literal (true meaning) or figurative (represents something) ).
Let's try another example!
(You do)
Draw a picture on the back side of your index card to show the meaning of the bolded words in the two sentences.
