The kings wife Amyitis used to live in the mountains and when she came to Babylon she was depressed.Amyitis loved the mountains and did not like the sight of the plain terrain. So the king built the gardens in the form of a mountain to make her feel better.
Problems during construction.
There was a problem while constructing the gardens. It was called the water problem.
The plants would die without water and there was no way to transport it all the way up the gardens.
The king figured out that he could use a chain pump.A chain pump is basically two large wheels with water buckets on them.when it reaches the top the water falls and moisturizes the plants.
There were small rectangles that each plant was on .there was a layer of dirt and grass that each plant grew on.
