Thanks to a flashback we know that the story starts in England.
Walter and Kitty meet at a dance.
After they get married, they move to Honk Kong
Kitty betrays Walter by having an affair with Charlie Townsend.
Aware of the betrayal, Walter takes Kitty to Mei-Tan-Fu, the center of cholera.
Kitty discovers another life as well as the fact that she is pregnant.
Walter dies from cholera.
Kitty returns to Hong Kong where she meets Charlie once more.
Finally, she goes back to England to live with his father.

Film

Te story begins when they arrive to Mei-Tan-Fu, and thanks to several flashbacks we know the first part of the story:
Walter and Kitty meet at a dance.
After they get married, they move to Shanghai
Kitty betrays Walter by having an affair with Charlie Townsend.
Aware of the betrayal, Walter takes Kitty to Mei-Tan-Fu, the center of cholera.
Kitty starts working in a convent.
After being angry with each other, one night, they have a sexual intercourse.
Then, she realizes she is pregnant.
Walter dies in a cholera refugee camp.
Kitty returns to London where she lives with her father and her five-year-old son.
She meets Charlie in London and kindly refuses to see him again.

Kitty Fane
She has dark eyes, curly brown hair, square chin, long nose and a beautiful skin.
She was born in a middle-class family and her mother had always expected her to be married with a wealthy man.
She really likes going to dances and enjoys music and sports.
Walter Fane
He is thin and short.
He has got black small eyes, straight delicate nose.
He is always distant, extremely respectful and intelligent but not very talkative.
He is also quite sensitive and shy.
Charlie Townsend
He is tall with a beautiful figure.
He has attractive blue eyes. a little thin curly mustache and black hair.
He is fond of sports and popularity is always his best ally.
He likes flirting but he really feel affection for his wife.
Kitty thinks he is a coward.
Mr. Waddington
He is a little thin man with a bald head and a small, bare face.
Although he is always nearly drunk, he is sensitive and realizes about everything that happens

They were French nuns that left everything to devote their lives to charity and sacrifice.
