What Exactly Is A Bottle Flip?
A bottle flip is when you fill up a bottle about 1/3 of the way and the you try and flip the bottle and make it land cap facing the sky or ceiling. Swag points for landing it on the cap.
The Science of Bottle Flip
First thing you should know is that the water level is the bottle's center of mass. When you flick your wrist and you let go of the bottle, the water inside the bottle starts moving. 3/4 of the way to landing the flip, the water hits the sides of the bottle and greatly decreases the speed of the flip.

Continued...
If you drop a bottle without flipping it, it simply bounces around, but when you flip the bottle half the water if still flying when the bottle lands. The bottle tries bouncing, but is not able to because the water that was just flying smacks down and cancels the bounce.
Who Invented Bottle Flipping?
Mike Senatore, an 18-year-old from Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte, NC, whose “bottle flipping” in a recent talent show launched him into worldwide internet fame.
