WHO AM I?
MOHD ASRI JUSOH
Birthday : 20 September 1990 (yup. Today!)
The youngest in child of my family
I have an identical twin brother
Officially 22 years old
Born in a small village called Dungun, Terengganu, the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
Born in a decent middle-class family and raised with a strong Islamic values by my parents.
I am very close to my mother compared to other siblings
I enjoy being at school, can be consider as one of popular students back in my school years due to my active involvement in co-curricular activities – debate, public speaking, prefect, Master of Ceremony (Emcee).
Limited media exposure – No computer/Internet, not much channels in television. I only watched 3 main channel back in my school years.
My late father was a cool dad, he never limits our access to media. However, my mother is strict and wants us to excel in our studies. She puts certain barriers and rules for us to watch television – no midnight show, strictly no explicit content in the television etc.
But, I got a VCD player , radio and a video game player – my earliest media exposure in my childhood.
My most favorite childhood game
What motivates my media selection
I ‘m highly moved by people who aspire higher and excel in their academic, career and their life.
I see my mother, sister and my brother in-law as my inspirations as they are respectable and successful in their academic as well as their life. What motivates me the most is my strong desire to help my family financially and to take care of them for the rest of my life.

I am extremely motivated and determined to achieve. I like to be a leader and enjoy working with people. I also enjoy inspiring people with my thoughts and act.
My experience being a facilitator in a computer class
Who I want to be?
During high school, I always wanted to be a Television Host. It motivates my selection of media. I like to watch popular talk-show such as Ellen DeGeneres, famous local breakfast show such as Malaysia Hari Ini (Malaysia Today).
What media I choose?
Facebook / Twitter / Skype
Malay, Indonesia movies and TV-Series
Hindi movies (My obsession)
Famous English movies and TV-Series
Reality –TV Series – Malaysian Idol, One In A Million, American Idol
Local songs, Hindi songs and English songs
Which media satisfies my needs for …
- Identity Formation
- High Sensation
- Youth Culture
I enjoy Hindi movies. I am thoroughly enjoyed watching the action, love and relationship themes as well as the beauty of Indian culture.
My media selection hugely influenced by my beliefs and upbringing.
As a Muslim, I listen to spiritual songs
which embrace my religion and promotes
the messages of love and peace
I also watched some movies to stimulate high sensation, affects my emotion. (action, rawness, horror)
Watching funny shows and TV-Series also help to regulate my emotion whenever I feel down and sad. It also help me to smile through the jokes
Youth Culture Identification
Social networking websites helps me to connect with people around the world. It channels my mind, thought, my mind, and myself to all the people connected
through the sites
If you want to be someone in life, if you want to achieve something in life, if you want to win, then listen to your heart. If your heart doesn’t give you any answers, close your eyes and think of your parents. And then you will cross all the hurdles, all your problems will disappear. Victory is yours. -from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
It leaves an impact on emotions. The motivational, witty and one-liner dialogues attracts me the most as it can be advice for my future undertakings
I can be easily influenced by the actor’s clothes and hair style, even though it is temporary.
Everytime you feel like you cannot go on
You feel so lost
That your so alone
All you is see is night
And darkness all around
You feel so helpless
You can`t see which way to go
Don`t despair and never loose hope
Cause Allah is always by your side
My personality and my desire to achieve and to be a better , hence I listen to inspirational songs to keep me moving forward. When I listened to the lyrics of the songs, I reflect on my own life
Quran is a primary guidance for
me as Muslim. As my Arabic

- Relax myself after a busy day.
Memorize the lyrics and sing together through the song
Fun facts : I am able to memorize the lyric of a Hindi song just listen to it 3 times. Even though I never have an Indian friend before!
When I listen to inspirational songs, I feel motivated to do better and to overcome my sadness
By using media (social networking),
I can always interact with
my beloved ones (family, girlfriend,
friends) which I engage emotionally
Skyping with my family on my birthday, for example, helps reduce my homesickness.
Whenever I watch a movie, I reflect the characters with myself. I try as hard as I can to find myself in every character, to learn something from them
Reading the newspaper influences my worldview. I found my country Malaysia is getting higher in social cases momentarily
What I Like
What I dislike
Movies/TV-Series which motivates me to be a better person in life
Reflect the songs that I listened to into my life
Morally decent and appropriate
Explicit scenes or song which carries negative messages
Something which disrespectful to my religion and my country
The ban of 'Innocence of Muslims' movie
Media that I chose should be suitable with my background and religious view. I do respect different freedom of speech, but everything has a limit. I strongly disagree if the dignity of my religion and country being jeopardize by baseless facts or opinions.
Therefore, I filter each media that I use as long as it fits my background. If its not, then I consider it as useless and worthless
The conscious use of media
I can understand Hindi language better now as I am able to watch a full-length Hindi movie without even have to look at the subtitle
Subconsciously, I learn to brush up my leadership skills as well as my interpersonal skills by watching Reality Tv-series which requires them to work in a group
My Quran recitation also influence me to do good deeds and enhance myself to practice a pious and appropriate moral values
Explicit scenes (Porn)
Negative messages conveyed
in a song or movie
