Objective:
To produce a fiberglass using fish scales as a substitute component.
Results and Discussion
Conclusion
1. What are the properties of fish scales that make it a potential material for fiberglass?
Fish scales are light in weight, extremely durable, flexible, tough and less brittle. It is capable in resisting heat and insulation which makes it a potential fiberglass component.

Methodology
FISH SCALES AS SUBSTITUTE COMPONENT FOR FIBERGLASS
This study aims to answer the following questions:
1. What are the properties of fish scales that make it a potential material for fiberglass?

2. Are fish scales acceptable as substitute component for fiberglass in terms of:
a. Tensile strength
b. Physical property
i. Color
ii. Texture
iii. Thickness

3. Is there a significant difference between the Agas Fiberglass, and the fish scales fiberglass in terms of tensile strength?


Materials:
500 g of dried fish scales
sandpaper
300 g of premixed resin
spatula
15 g of hardener
gloves
mold (12x12in)
1 meter of plastic cover
face mask
Procedure
1. Mix 300g of resin, 15g of hardener. Continuously stir the mixture.

2. Place the plastic cover on the moulder and spread the mixture on it.

3. Put the dried fish scales above the plastic cover with the mixture.

4. Spread another layer of mixture above the scales.

5. Cover the top with plastic cover and flatten it until there are no bubbles present. Let it dry for about 45 minutes.

6. Remove the plastic cover and smoothen the edges of the fiberglass using sandpaper

Mean was used to determine the descriptive rating of the conducted survey.

The t-test was used to determine the significant difference of Fish scales fiberglass and Agas Fiberglass in terms of tensile strength.
Statistical Treatments
* Table 1 shows different setups, varying in thickness of the fiberglass with the same ratio (based from the setups of Agas Fiberglass with the highest tensile strength) of resin and hardener.

*Figure 1 shows results obtained from testing the tensile strength of fish scales fiberglass varying in thickness. The Figure shows that the thickness is inversely proportional to the tensile strength of the fiberglass

*Figure 2 contains the result obtained from the testing the tensile strength of fish scales fiberglass and the result of Agas Fiberglass from their research paper. The results show that the fish scales fiberglass is more preferable fiberglass than the Agas Fiberglass of its greater tensile strength.
2. Are fish scales as substitute component for fiberglass acceptable in terms of:
a. tensile strength
Based on the standard range of fiberglass, its minimum tensile strength is 23.58 KN (
Kilo Newton
). Fish scales have a weak tensile strength to be considered as a substitute component for fiberglass with the mean tensile strength of 8.7 KN (
Kilo Newton
).
b. physical property
Based on the responses on the conducted survey, the physical property of fish scales fiberglass (color, texture and thickness) weighs a descriptive rating of Very Satisfactory.
3. Is there a significant difference between the Agas Fiberglass, and the Fish scales fiberglass?
The computed t-test showed a result of 16.67 at 5% level of significance. There is a significant difference between Agas Fiberglass and Fish Scales Fiberglass in terms of tensile strength.

To compare fish scales fiberglass to Agas fiberglass
1. Conduct a feasibility study to minimize the cost of production and better marketability.
2.Seek for more information to come up with more transparent fiberglass to serve it's utmost purpose.
3. Conduct more experiments to completely eliminate the odor of resin an hardener.
