Transcript of Dwight D. Eisenhower :)

Life for Eisenhower started simple... Born in Denison, Texas. His whole family (seven Boys and his parents) moved to Abilene, Kansas. Where he grew up... He was called Dwight, so he reversed the order of his given name when he enrolled in West Point Military Academy... His parents, Ida and David Eisenhower... In school, Dwight wanted to play baseball but didn't make varsity, and instead played football. Then Life for Eisenhower got a bit more complicated when he graduated from West Point in 1915... Eisenhower became the #3 leader of the new rank corps and rose to temporary Lieutenant Coronel in the National Army in World War I. During the war he trained Tank Crews on the grounds of the Pickett's Charge...but he and his men never saw combat. Eisenhower rose in the ranks throughtout his military carreer and became a Major and stayed one for 16 years. He also learned to fly! Though he didn't fly for the military. Dwight stuck around for World War II as well.... He participated in "Operation Overlord," the liberation of western Europe and the invasion of Germany. Dwight was promoted to General of the Army. After Germany surrendered, Dwight was appointed Military Governor of U.S. Occupation Zone. Dwight returned to Washington in November, 1945 to replace Marshall as Chief of Staff of the Army. His main job was demobilization of soldiers. Finally, Dwight gave an entry into politics and was recommended by republicans in office. His simple slogan "We Like Ike," won over America, and Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower beat out Adlai Stevenson in a landslide! Becoming America's 34th President! Now...His Years as President... Dwight was president from 1953 to 1961. One of Eisenhower's great achievements was signing the document that made the Interstate Highway System in 1956. Eisenhower used the military forces to help other countries in the Middle East, including Europe and France. he also was engaged in racial issues and had tense arguements on the "seprerate but equal" rule with Orval Faubus. And that is the story for Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower. "We Like Ike!" The Slogan That Won America!
