The character is the singer. This takes place in his "world" (Pompeii).
THE PLOT STRUCTURE & CONFLICTS OF
POMPEII BY BASTILLE
Man v.s Nature
In the song it says,"Where do we begin. The rubble or our sins." The singer has to choose where to start the cleaning and fixing process.
The singer talks about the moment when everything is about to unravel and become clear.
Since the volcano ruins many things and the people's belongings and their possessions are ruined.
While cleaning the singer is picking up pieces, wishing he could close his eyes and everything would be right like the old times, once again.
Events take place such as the volcano eruption. The song quotes," And the walls kept tumbling down, in the city that we love." The singer means that everything is being ruined and the walls of his life is collapsing.
Man v.s Self
Man v.s self is shown when the singer has to make a decision that is better for him. The decision is about where to start the cleaning and fixing process.
Man V.S Self
Another part of the rising action is that the singer feels that they should close their eyes and remember the past to escape this "tragedy."
