Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5th, 1901 in Chicago to Elias Disney and Flora Call Disney.
Walt was imaginative at an early age and even sold some creations at seven. Commercial Art He began experimenting with animation which led to the creation of The Alice Comedies that featured a real girl in an imaginary world. Disney ran out of money and his company, Laugh- O- Grams went bankrupt.
But, that didn't stop him. Walt headed for Hollywood at age 21 in 1923. Even though Walt faced more failure, his brother, Roy, believed in him.
They became business partners. Mickey Mouse Walt married Lillian Bounds on July 13, 1925.
Three years later, the couple was riding back on a train to LA.
Walt sketched a character he named Mortimer Mouse.
She talked him out of the name and suggested Mickey.
The famous mouse was born and his official birthday is January 18, 1928.
This new creation was voiced by Walt himself. His first animated short comedy was Plane Crazy which feauted his newest creation, Mickey Mouse.
Mickey Mouse also starred in Steamboat Willie- the world's first synchronized cartoon. Flowers & Trees won Walt his first academy award in 1932. Dec 21, 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first full- length animated musical feature that cost $1,499,000 to produce during the Depression. In total, Disney Studios produced 635 films and 100 short featured animations. Disney Parks Walt had dreams to expand his imagination. He purchased 160 acres just outside of LA. The construction began on July 21, 1954 and lasted for exactly 1 year and a day. Finally, a land of whimsy and imagination was named Disneyland. In 1959, he wanted to create another magical place on the east coast. He purchased 27,000 acres in Florida. Walt died in 1966, but the dream of another world was still under construction in 1968. The Disney World Theme Park was opened in 1971. Merchandise for his famous characters such as Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy were introduced. Disney Studios found new ways to educate through Mickey Mouse Clubhouse which airs on the Disney channel and is aimed toward younger children.
Disney encouraged children to follow their dreams.
He transformed the entertainment industry.
Walt added sound to cartoons.
Also, introduced color to his animations. History- he changed his future and his dreams effected everyone around him. Economics- Walt had a hard time paying his employees but still believed in his creations. Geography- Disney had to pick perfect location for building his theme parks. “If you can dream it, you can do it.
