Butterfly Life Cycle Stage one starts when an adult butterfly lays eggs. Stage 1: Eggs The adult butterfly must first lay eggs on a leaf. Egg Eggs can come in all different shapes and sizes and colors. Larvae Stage Stage 2: Eggs Hatch into Caterpillars The caterpillar at this stage is called larvae The Caterpillar is very hungry when he comes out. Caterpillars can be many different colors Caterpillars have long worm like bodies Caterpillars can have different textures of body, some can be hairy, have spikes, or be smooth Stage 3: The Chrysalis Caterpillars attach themselves to a leave or a stick with something in their body called silk. Once the caterpillar feels safe they wrap themselves with silk into what is called a cocoon Caterpillars will stay inside the cocoon for a few weeks The Chrysalis will change color along with the caterpillar Stage 4: Butterfly one three two four Review Teacher Example Now it is your turn to make your own lifecycle of a butterfly!
