Region divides the world into manageable units for geographic study. Regions have some sort of characteristic that unifies the area. Regions can be formal or functional.
How do geographers use the 5 themes of geography?
Geographers use the 5 themes of geography to specifically serve the teacher population, a publication entitled Guidelines for Geographic Education was published in 1984 and its contents became known popularly as the "Five Themes of Geography.
This theme considers how humans adapt to and modify the environment. Humans shape the landscape through their interaction with the land; this has both positive and negative effects on the environment.

How does using the 5 themes of geography help geographers understand the place they study?
Using the five themes helps Geographers to understand the place they study because it provides a structural foundation for identifying different regions. Geographers can use these themes to support their studies and discover information based on knowledge that has already been obtained. I believe that Geographers can use these themes to become more familiar with the places they study through observation and extensive research.
