Physical Changes The physical changes that food goes through when it's digested involve, the mixing of food with water, the crushing and chopping of pieces of food by the teeth, or the mixing of food as its squeezed along the gut. Chemical Changes(the role of enzymes) The chemical changes that food undergo occur when the food come in contact with digestive enzymes. The enzymes chemically break down, protiens, carbohydrates, and fats into forms that can easily be absorbed by the body such as: glycerol, fatty acids, amino acids, sugar maltose. Intracellular Digestion Intracellular digestion occurs within a cell. The cell will take in nutrients that still need to be broken down so they can be used. Extracellular Digestion Extracellular digestion occurs outside the cells. Cells will dump enzymes into a environment to digest food. The pancreas will dump digestive enzymes into the small intestine to finish digesting carbohydrates, fats, and protiens. Why did Kim tell James the he would be sick after eating the raw pork?
