Contrast and Contradictions
Page 54

Notice:
Katniss wants to cry and get it out before she has to go in front of everyone and the cameras (due to the result of the reaping.) However, no tears come.

Note:
No tears come because she is too tired and numb to cry, even though it would be better to cry now in the privacy of her own room.

Reflection:
I understand how Katniss wasn't able to cry; all of those built up emotions about the games were held in for too long.
Aha Moment
Page 60
Notice:
Katniss starts piecing together all of Peeta's actions and realizes that he is already forming a plan to stay alive in the games.

Note:
This might change things by him getting a chance to win the hunger games and maybe hurting Katniss later on

Reflection:
What plan is Peeta making? What is he going to do?
Tough Questions
Page 91
Notice:
What Peeta says makes Katniss question who she is, why hasn't anyone besides Peeta helped her?

Note:
This makes me wonder about who Katniss thinks she is.

Reflection:
What factors make Katniss question who she is?
Again and Again
Page 107
Notice:
Katniss constantly thinks of her mother and Prim.

Note:
She thinks about them often because she worries about their safety.

Reflection:
If I were Katniss, I would be the same way; worrying about my family.
Contrast and Contradictions
Page 116 - 120
Notice:
Katniss has to act completely different of how how she normally is for the interviews.

Note:
Haymitch tells her to do this because it will make her look better in front of the capitol.

Reflection:
Will this help her get sponsors in the games?
Memory Moment
Page 143
Notice:
When talking with Peeta, he says that he doesn't want the games to change him. Katniss remembers this one tribute who completely changed.

Note:
This memory may be important because it shows Katniss how the games affect people, and she doesn't want Peeta to be that way.

Reflection:
Will Peeta still be the same person in the games?
Words of the Wiser
page 197
Notice:
Katniss tells herself she has to get some strength back before she can continue in the games.

Note:
The life lesson is take your time. In order for Katniss to get farther into the games, she needs to take the time to regain her strength.

Reflection:
By doing this, maybe Katniss will be one step closer to winning the games.
Aha Moment
Page 217
Notice:
Katniss finds out that Peeta is badly wounded and somewhere in the woods alone

Note:
This might change things by Katniss risking her own life to get to Peeta.

Reflection:
Will Katniss get to Peeta in time to help him? Does she have the right stuff to help him?
Again and Again
Throughout the book
Notice:
Katniss constantly goes over how many tributes are left in the games, and who they are and what district they are from.

Note:
This keeps happening over and over again because Katniss wants to know who she has to look out for.

Reflection:
I would do the same thing. I would want to know who is left so I can be alert.
Aha Moment
Page 243
Notice:
Katniss realizes that the boy that she shot to try and save Rue was her first kill.

Note:
This might change things because it shows how Katniss has grown in the games

Reflection:
"But the boy from District 1 was the first person I knew would die because of my actions."
- Katniss
Tough Questions
Page 334
Notice:
Katniss questions if the gamemakers used the tributes real brains and messed with their memories in the mutts that are attacking her, Peeta, and Cato.

Note:
This question makes me wonder how much this freaks Katniss out. Also, if the mutts do have the brains of the fallen tributes.

Reflection:
I can't imagine how horrible that must be to be attacked by the mutts.
Words of the Wiser
Page 342
Notice:
Claudius Templesmith tells Peeta and Katniss that there can only be 1 winner of the 74th Hunger Games.

Note:
The life lesson is to be careful in what you trust. Katniss believed that they were going to win together, but it was all just a trick to get a big showdown at the end.

Reflection:
What are Katniss and Peeta going to do?
Memory Moment
Page 344
Notice:
Katniss remembers that she still has the pouch of nightlock berries from camp.

Note:
This memory is important because she realizes that she and Peeta can eat them at the same time to beat the system and have no winner.

Reflection:
Will Katniss and Peeta really do it? How will this affect the gamemakers and the capitol?
Words of the Wiser
Page 356 - 357
Notice:
Haymitch tells Katniss that she is in trouble. Using the berries to keep both her and Peeta alive has infuriated President Snow.

Note:
The life lesson is think before you act. This could lead to serious situations later on that could hurt Katniss, Peeta, or anyone else that knows them.

Reflection:
Will Katniss be able to figure out how to get through this? How will she tell her family?
