Civil Engineering concerned with all kinds of structures including bridges , pipelines , buildings and towers. Moreover, the construction and the design of transport system , airport , gas and water supply and more should be considered as a main function in this major. Civil engineers play an important role in society because they plan , design and test the structures of buildings and facilities.

Back fill
: the replacement of excavated earth into a trench around or against a basement.
Base shoe
: Molding used next to the floor on interior base board.
Bat:
A half-brick.
Batten
: Narrow strips of wood used to cover joints or as decorative vertical members over plywood or wide bards.
Blocking
: Small wood pieces to brace framing members or to provide a nailing base for gypsum board or paneling.
Brace
: Support / An inclined piece of framing lumber applied to wall or floor to strengthen the structure.
Brick lintel
: The metal angle iron that brick rests on .
Cement :
The grey powder that is the "glue" in concrete.
Concrete
:The mixture of portland cement , sand , gravel and water used to make basement floors, foundation walls ,etc.
Coped
: It is a procedure that the top and bottom flange of a metal be removed.

Downspout
: A pipe , usually of metal , for carrying rainwater down from the roofs horizontal gutters.
Field measure
: To take measurements in the home itself instead of using the blueprints.
Foundation
: The supporting portion of a structre below the first floor construction or below grade , including the footings.
Scaler:
A finishing material, either clear or pignented that is usually applied directly over raw wood for the purpose of sealing the wood surface.
Scratch coat
:The first coat of plaster ,which is scratched to form a bond for a second coat.
Slag
:Concrete cement that sometimes covers the vertical face of the foundation void material.
Spacing
: the distance between individual members or shingles in building construction.
Valley:
The "V" shaped area of a roof where two sloping roofs meet.
Walk-Through:
A final inspection of a building before closing , in order to find if there is a problem to fix it.
Zone valve
: A device usually placed near the heater or cooler , which controls the flow of water or steam to parts of the building.

Since the beginnings of human existence , engineering has been an aspect of life.
From 4000 to 2000 BC, humans began to surrender the nomadic presence , making a requirement for the construction of asylum.
The first pattern of huge structure construction were the Egyptian pyramids (2700-2500 BC ).




in the 18th century , the term civil engineering was instituted to join all things regular citizen instead of military engineering.

In London, the Institution of Civil Engineers was established in 1818.Thomas Telford became its first president. In 1828, the institution received a Royal Charter of considering the civil engineering as a profession.

This faculty has many avenues and opportunities to work in after graduating from the university .It also helped that I am good in Maths. Further,I was excited when I visited the construction sites with my uncle.

The Eiffel Tower has seen remarkable achievements, extraordinary light shows, and classy visitors.The assembly of the supports began on July 1, 1887 and was completed twenty-two months later.The construction work took 2 years, 2 months and 5 days
Another achievement is The Story Bridge in Brisbane.

Story bridge one of the greatest bridges in Brisbane.It has reduced the traffic in the last decade.It construction started in July 1935 and the bridge was opened in July 1940.

Madinat Al Harer ( City of Silk)
Madinat Al Harer is located in Kuwait city. It is being built since 2012 and will be completed by 2017.This development will cover an area of 250km².Moreover,in this city, there will be four main areas ; Educational City , Financial City, Leisure City and Ecological City. Around 700,000 residents will be living in the city.
