History of April Fool's Day. Original from France, it has two explanations of why it's celebrated every year: The most known version says that when Charles 9th was king of France in the 16th century New Year was celebrated during a week until the1st of April but since 1564 the Gregorian calendar was established so the celebrations were changed to how we know them nowadays.
Several french people didn't notice the change, so they kept celebrating New Year in April and people who knew about the new calendar kept giving presents to the people that didn't know. Those presents were jokes that led to the April Fools' Day, and the most common joke was to tape a fish of paper on other people's backs.
But the first amazing April fools joke took place in United Kingdom when many people were convinced that they could see lions washing.
So on the 1st of April, April fools' jokes take place,and the victims of these jokes are called gowks.
Nowadays April Fools' Day is celebrated in UK,United States,Scotland,Portugal,France or Italy.
Here in Spain it's celebrated in Menorca. April Fool's day in diferents countries. April Fools' Day is celebrated in many countries on April 1 every year.
It's not a national holiday but it's widely recognized and celebrated as a day when people play practical jokes on each other. In England, where tricks and pranks are only allowed during the morning hours of All Fool's Day, the victim is known as a "noodle." In France the celebration is known as Poisson d'Avril,in Italy as Pesce d'aprile,and in Belgium as Aprilvis, and children and adults traditionaly tape paper fishes on each others back. In Scotland April 1 was traditionally called Hunt the Gowk day, Gowk means cuckoo, although the name is disappearing. The traditional prank is to ask someone to deliver a sealed message asking for help, the content instructs the recipient to pass it along and continue the chain. Scottish have extended the holiday into a second day which is known as Taily Day . On this day they play a lot of different jokes,like the famous ''kick me'' prank. Scotland. The 13th day of the Persian New Year is called Sizdah Bedar, and usually falls on April 1 or April 2. Pranks have been played on this holiday since 536 BC, making it the oldest known joke day. This fact has led to believe that this tradition is the origin of April Fools' day. It’s customary to spend the afternoon outside, celebrating the new season with food,games, and jokes. Iran. Spain In Spain an equivalent date is December 28, Holy Innocents’ Day, which is also celebrated in Latin America. Though the celebration is a Christian feast day, the pranking tradition isn't religious, it's a cultural invention.
After somebody plays a joke or a prank on somebody else, the joker usually shouts ''Inocente!''. There is a television show on this day called Inocente Inocente, where they film jokes that are usually played on famous people and show them on TV.
In the Spanish island of Menorca "Dia d'enganyar" ("Fooling day") is celebrated on April 1 because Menorca was a British possession during part of the 18th century. Spain. Portuguese celebrate April Fools’ with pranks like throwing flour on someone. Portugal. India. India’s Holi festival is celebrated on March 31, and is a day to play jokes, toss colored dust and wear face and body paint to inaugurate spring. In Denmark May 1 is known as Maj-kat (May cat), it's a joking day also celebrated in Sweden. Denmark. France, Italy and Belgium. England. Jokes. Burguer King's left handed Whopper. In 1998, the fast food chain,Burguer King, announced the arrival of a new hamburguer in the market, the lefthanded whopper. All the ingredients were rotated 180 degrees.

Obviously this was a joke, because hamburguers are round. But the next day, thousands of people went to Burguer King asking for the lefthanded burguer. Google April fools' Day. In 1980 it was announced that Big Ben's clock face was about to be replaced with a digital screen and the clock hands were going to be auctioned.This led to big protest in the UK.
