Last year, the EIA served more than six million passengers, making it one of Canada's fastest growing major airports and Calgary’s is one of Canada's busiest airports with more than 12 million passengers in 2008. Edmonton gets an average of 123.5 cm of snow a year. Calgary gets a little more with an average of 126.5cm of snow a year. Now I am sure you would like to see the differences. Edmonton is about 4 hours away from the mountains but Calgary is about an hour from the mountains and you can see them from the city. Edmonton has a smaller population of around 700,000 people and is Alberta’s capital city. This is where the government meets to make all major decisions for the province. Calgary has a larger population that is close to 1 million people. It is not the capital of Alberta. Edmonton is known as the Greenest city in Canada with the River Valley being just under 22 times the size of central part in Manhattan. Edmonton is also a world leader when it comes to recycling and Calgary is known for it’s proximity to the mountains and it is trying to follow Edmonton in developing a better garbage program.
