BY: ADRIAN FOGELIN Setting: A PREZI BY CYDNEY PARMAR The setting of this book is most likely Tallahassee, Florida. The setting is never stated clearly. You kind of have to figure it out with the little hints here and there you have to pick out. PROBLEMS AND SUMMARY Y U THANK FOR WATCHING!!! In this book, The Big Nothing, a boy named Justin Riggs doesn't have the best life. His brother is in the army and about to be sent to Iraq, his dad has left the house and might not come back, but he does like this girl named Jemmie Lewis. And like all people Justin finds something to pass this bad time away. To take his mind off the war, his dad, and Jemmie Justin uses an old Piano named Mr. Sohmer. Throughout the whole book Justin is sending letters to his war bound brother or other letter sent to him. The chapters are also set up like a diary or journal and the story is told from Justin`s point of view.

Problems:
Duane is sent to Iraq. When Duane left it made his and Justin`s mom worried.
Justin`s dad left home and that left Justin and his mom alone at home. When dad left mom had a melt down and Justin kind of had to take care of himself and his mom.
Justin is having a little trouble with his love life. Justin likes this girl named Jemmie and is to scared to tell her he likes her. Solutions to the Problems Problems:
Duane is sent to Iraq. When Duane left it made his and Justin`s mom worried.

Justin`s dad left home and that left Justin and his mom alone at home. When dad left home,Justin`s mom had a melt down, and Justin kind of had to take care of himself, and his mom.

Justin is having a little trouble with his love life. Justin likes this girl named Jemmie and is to scared to tell her he likes her. Solutions:
There is no solution to stop Duane from being sent to Iraq so in the book Duane does not die and is safe(most likely because they stop talking about Duane before the book ends) but has not come back home yet.

The solution for dad leaving home is him coming back. Dad does com back and is given a second chance by Justin and mom.

The solution for Justin`s love life is him getting Jemmie as his girlfriend and he kind of does. Justin makes his main move on Jemmie at the very end of the book on the last page by doing a thing to cheer up Jemmie in quite a romantic way. Recommendation
I seriously recommend this book to all people and especially to middle schoolers and ninth graders. This book relates to you(if your a middle schooler and ninth grader), and is just fun to read. I'm sure if you read this book and give it a try you will thoroughly enjoy it. I read this book and it completely captured me and kept me hooked. The problems Justin goes through and the events in the book are just what a reader needs to get hooked to this phenomenal book.
