Understanding what "Behavior" is
before understanding ADHD

Behavior is....
purposeful
learned
chosen
it can be changed
it is taught
its a way of communicating!
So Why are SOME children not motivated or struggle with ATTENTION?
No relevance for them
Fear of failure
They feel inadequate
Uninspiring work
Because.....
UNDERSTANDing ADHD...

What the school day looks, feels, and sounds like
for a child with Attention Problems.....

"Everything distracts me at school..if I hear a pen drop I will look for it"

"I do things I don't mean to do...I just forgot to raise my hand"

"I try not to fidget because it makes me stand out"

"I just looked out the door for a minute and I don't know how long I was daydreaming but when I looked at other kids, they were on a different page"

Short Term Goals
Simple and StraightForward
Specific

Listen actively to what they say
Eliminate sarcasm
Strive for friendly and informed interactions
if it's not working, then adapt your approach, they wont change for you!
So what can we do as parents ?
7% words
35% Tonal, volume, tempo
55% non verbal signals
Lets just talk about "communication"...
and also...
Use verbal and non-verbal encourages

Assertive Sentence Starters
