Twiggy Lawson
Life In London
Lesley Lawson most known as her nickname “Twiggy”, given to her because of her stick-thin pubescent figure became a prominent British teenage model during of swinging sixties in London.
Born Lesley Hornby on September 19, 1949, in Neasden, a suburb of London.
She was the third daughter of Helen Hornby & William Norman.
Her mother taught her to sew at a young age which helped her later on in her life and career.
She attended Kilburn High School for Girls and began modeling at age 15.
Her skinny frame and twig-like figure earned her the nickname 'Twigs' and from then on she was Known as Twiggy.
Twiggy's Rise to Fame...
1965 at age 16 Twiggy posed for her boyfriend who was a hair stylist that was looking for models on whom to try out his new crop haircut on. He styled her hair and photographed it to frame on his salon walls. A fashion journalist from the
Daily Express
came

into the salon a few days later and noticed Twiggy's face on the wall and asked to meet Twiggy. She arranged to have Twiggy photographed and a couple of weeks later a publication in the
Daily Express
featured an article and images of Ms.Hornby, declaring her "The Face of '66".
A month after her article in the
Daily Express,
Twiggy posed for her first shoot for Vogue. A year later, she had appeared in 13 separate fashion shoots including 8 international Vogue editions. Soon she began her own line of clothes called "Twiggy Dresses" in 1967, while taking the fashion world by storm. That year she became an international sensation, modeling in France, Japan, and America.
