Transcript of Regular Show
Ex, mordecai and rigby are below their manager (Benson) and overseer (Pops). This shows class systems because Rigby and mordecai have to follow orders from both of them because they have more power. Work (cont) Mordaci and rigby have other co-workers
Skips, muscle man, and high five ghost These co-workers represent horizontal mobility, because although skips might be in a better position in the sense of the reputational method because he is the head handy man, he is still paid around the same and his prestige is not much better than the other co workers. Work (cont) Income gaps are also evident in the show.
Pops owns the Park and the Park house
Benson lives in an apartment in downtown
Skips lives in a small house near the park
High five ghost and muscle man live in a trailer home
Mordecai and Rigby rent a room in Pops house
This shows difference in wealth because some have more luxury than others. Mordecai Rigby Work (cont) Social class generalizations are also evident in the show:
Ex, muscle man lives in a trailer home and has a working class job (handy man). Muscle man also eats at a chicken wing restaurant, this shows that he does not care about eating healthy, like the upper-middle classes. Also his dad is a truck driver this shows that social class is inherited because muscle man social mobility has only been horizontal. Every episode starts with a dilemma that includes Rigby and mordaci, and there is usually two choices. Finish work or find a shortcut to get out off work. The issue of morality that these characters face on their daily bases are do to social control. Good Vs Bad Pops, the owner of the park, shows generalization of the upper class
For example, Pops has inherited the park from his dad, this show that he is old money because he did not work himself into the upperclass. The owner ship of a park in the middle of the city also shows that he is old money because the park was built before the city was created and this means that they have had assets past down from generations to generations. Work (cont)
The people of regular show have Beliefs that would be considered out of wack in our society
Ex: If a person asks someone else to do him/her a solid (favor), the person asking for the solid will owe a solid to the one doing the solid. If the person who owes the solid doesn’t do it, they will be destroyed by some unknown force
This belief shows that people in this society value solidarity and truthfulness from others, because, the belief tells people that if one is untruthful to another person, who is working for them, one will commit such a sin that ought to be punished at full price. Good Vs Bad One of their society's norms are that workers must obey their shifts in order for them to get paid in money. This is a sanction because this encourages the norm of working ones full shift. This norm seems to originate from the value of paying back a favor, because the worker gets paid but then he owes the employer a favor which is to work for him. Good Vs Bad This norm is what creates a conflict between mordecai and rigby and their boss. This norm is very much like a more because if mordecai and rigby don’t do their job they will be fired, and in the show getting fired is and extreme punishment. Good Vs Bad In this episode Mordecai and Rigby ditch their chores but when the food truck comes their boss forbids them to eat the burgers as type of negative sanction for not working I picked the topic of appearances because in regular show the way that characters look seem to be influence by their gender and age. These gender roles are emphasize in this show because it’s a children's program and gender is emphasize during this time period because of socialization. Regular show emphasizes gender identity on their physical appearances
For ex Mordecai is color
Blue because in our
society males are perceived
as individuals who don’t show their emotions and the color blue represents calmness.
Mordecai also doesn’t wear any clothes. This shows hints of a patriarchy society, because man do not have to hide their physical features, implicating that the male body is perceived as perfect. appearances Regular show emphasizes gender identity on their physical appearances
Mordecai is color http://protagonist.wikia.com/wiki/Margaret Margaret is Mordecai’s crush, she represents the female gender identity in society. Because is red and red represents passion and strong emotions
And these are characteristic that are added to the gender role
Of females. appearances Pops’ appearances are also affected by a certain factor. This factor is different from gender though, he is affected by his age group. Pop’s wears dull and elegant clothes, this comes from the stereotype that old people are boring and have decency. His outfit represents these categories because elegant clothes are perceived in society as objects of prestige and of ideal culture appearances References Conley, Dalton.
