Wonthaggi Desalination Plant
Transcript of Wonthaggi Desalination Plant
Why did the Victorian government believe that the desalination plant should be built at Wonthaggi?
The Victorian Government believed the desalination plant should be built at Wonthaggi because back when they started building the plant there where no houses in the area. Also they needed to be near sea water
Why Did some people protest against the plant being built at Wonthaggi?
Some of the issues why they protested was:
-To much power usage
-The high cost
-The out pouring of salty water back into the coastal region effecting the wildlife and sea life
-The cost to the people
How Does Desalination Work?
Desalination works by the desalination plant pumping sea water through the plant so it is able to remove sand, salt and any chemicals. Next it will provide one litre of fresh pure drinking water and one litre of very salty water. The salty water is pumped back out to the ocean and the pure water is distributed to our taps to drink.
