Transcript of POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY
This week was amazing. It was nice to stop and smell the roses and play versus a boring week of work. The three happiness quests I chose were the Character Strengths survey, a gratitude visit, and finally two days of "Happiness Journal" entries. I really enjoyed all three of these quests, so much that I may pursue doing them in the future.
Thursday, September 10
1. Happy World Suicide Prevention Day! This is my favorite holiday because I get to tell people my story and encourage them that life gets better, even if times get tough.
2. I got a new tattoo to celebrate World Suicide Prevention Day. It's an orange ribbon, the suicide awareness ribbon.
3. I got to hang out with my friend, Tyler. He went with me when I got my tattoo, we shared some laughs, and it was good to catch up with him.
MY PLAN FOR LASTING WELL-BEING
I will apply positive emotion in my life by following my dream of being a musician. No activity makes me happier than singing or sitting down to play my guitar or piano.
Song writing allows me to enter a state of flow. I can engage in this activity and be one with the music.
I will let go of the people in my life who bring me down and invite in encouraging people. I already have a positive relationship with my boyfriend, friends, and family. Now, I will build positive relationships with future coworkers/employers.
I love what I do, writing and performing and performing have a high meaning in my eyes. Now, I would also like to volunteer somewhere, maybe a food bank or an animal shelter. I love to help out and I feel that I would get a lot of meaning out of volunteering.
I want to push myself harder to my goal of being a famous musician. I will practice my instruments and singing more. Then, I will find a healthy balance between my career and my other activities.

Friday, September 11
1. I got to sleep in! I usually wake up around 9 a.m., but today I slept in till 10:30 a.m. I love my extra sleep.
2. I had a piano lesson today. It's always fun to chat with my piano teacher, and of course play the piano.
3. I got to work the drive thru window with my best friend today. We always laugh and joke around which is so much fun, not to mention the work shift goes by faster!
The first happiness quest I completed was the Character Strengths survey. This involved a quiz of 120 questions that asked personality traits of mine on a scale from "Very Much Like Me" to "Very Much Unlike Me". I think that my results are pretty accurate and I'm very happy with my Character Strengths as a whole. I do have a genuine love for people and I often times put their needs before my own. Also, I have a very great appreciation of beauty and excellence. Sometimes, I just stop and look at the sky and think,
Wow. We really do live in a beautiful world
. Really, all aspects of life I appreciate because I find them so fascinating, even if I don't agree with the thought or belief. For me, honesty is my second nature. I honestly don't sugar coat the truth; I tell a person straight up my honest opinion. This quiz was a good fit for me, so I can focus on my top Character Strengths. I also can work on my weaknesses, forgiveness and love of learning, and try hard to improve these. Overall, I enjoyed this quest of discovering my Character Strengths.
On Wednesday, I visited my best friend, Lexi. I hadn't seen her for 4 months, so this visit was long overdue. The reason I visited her was so I could give her the t-shirt she is wearing in this picture. I gave her this shirt because the next day, Thursday, September 10, was World Suicide Prevention Day. Lexi and I have both struggled with depression over the years. In fact, that is how we met; we were both in the Crisis Unit at Nationwide Children's Hospital. It is really nice having a friend that understands your pain and vice-versa. When I gave her this shirt, it made both of us quite emotional because this day is something special to us and we share those feelings together. I also gave her some info cards to pass out the next day, and she told me people loved them! This was really encouraging because I want to change the world by helping prevent suicide and help people who are struggling with depression or anxiety. I am so glad that I chose this quest. It gave me a chance to reconnect with my best friend, as well as change the world, even if it is just one small step at a time.
On Thursday and Friday of this week, I wrote in my "Happiness Journal". I reflected on the entire day at the end of each of those days. I think I will keep a "Happiness Journal" in the future because I want to look back at all the adventures and fun times I had, even the little ones. I realize that a couple of these entries are minor events, but I am okay with that. It is important to reflect on the good things in life, even if it's just getting to sleep in. Writing in a "Happiness Journal" is a positive outlook on life. It really made me realize how happy and thankful I am to be alive.
