Fort Hood Shooting: For the first time, the station sent a web producer to a breaking news story to file reports exclusively for the site.
It was all
accomplished on a smart phone.
As a web producer, I was responsible for posting television content online and creating web-exclusive content. I worked with television producers to integrate web content into their shows. In addition to my web producing duties,
I reported nightly on technology and Internet trends
and covered the SXSW Interactive festival as a backpack journalist three years in a row.

My passion for using new media tools to gather news led me to a position as an assignment editor at CNN. When breaking news hit, I would verify information through official channels and
work to clear additional media from eye witnesses posting on social media. I also trained others in this process

After consistently writing for shows and working breaking news, I was offered a
full-time position as an assignment editor.
I also
led the social media efforts for
the station and trained talent
and assignment editors to use social media.
Reporting and creating content across multiple platforms continued to be part of my daily job duties. Throughout the year I
produced multiple series
on art, fashion, digital life and tech trends.
I also created and executed plans for online coverage of major events, which led to multiple opportunities to collaborate with news, creative services and sales departments.
Our team was recognized
twice by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters.
We won second place for our special online coverage of UT Longhorn Football and received honorable mention in the Best Television News Website category. The News 8 Austin web team was also awarded first and second place by the Associated Press for an interactive map where users could learn about candidates.
I led the station's efforts to develop a more participatory, digital newsroom, which included
training staff
in the latest new media technology.
My responsibilities also included coordinating CNN news crews and working with show teams and local affiliates to bring in video. I also continued to cover news events and contribute to wire reports.
As a multi-platform producer, I manage our relationships with bloggers and produce content for the web, television and social media. I also continue to provide support for various projects at the network level.
I was asked to begin reporting on digital trends after consistently writing on-air teases to our website. This is a great representation of
early attempts at tv/ web integration.
When I first started my segments, I reported live via a webcam. The managing editor then upgraded my camera to HD and eventually promoted me to reporting from the studio.

As the Sr. Online Producer, I was able to grow in my management style by
overseeing a team of three employees
. In this position, I
increased traffic three-fold
through strategic partnerships, television promotion and social media referrals.
