Big Ideas
: Social purposes, intercultural purposes and instructional purposes.


Why did I choose these standards?
Working in an international school, where diversity is the norm, the focus must be on skills that will generate respect during collaborative and communicative exposure. It is important to promote intercultural exchange adapted to academic goals. What better way to see the application of a foreign language than in a real life situation?

Conclusion
Standards enable an educational program to build up knowledge in a sequential and orderly way. It bases it's foundation on previous contents covered and creates the platform for future goals to come.

From here, a more specific understanding will be derived. This is the starting point from which the students will see the use of English in different daily life situations.
Skill
: Communicate
Students must be able to express themselves in a written and oral way. In order to accomplish this, the students will be provided learning tools, such as vocabulary and grammar, to be able to put their thought into words and followed by full sentences.
Context: Within the school setting
Students will generate learning as they inquire how an isolated content can be linked to the language acquisition.
Skill
: Communicate
All communication resources are activated: Reading, writing, listening, oral and comprehension as the students will combine roles of transmitter and receiver of a message.
Context: Social Studies
Activities for standard 1
Look at the following celebrations around the world. Match the words with the pictures:
These celebrations are all special in Britain or the USA. Match them to the months.
Read about Diwali in Leicester. Answer the questions:
Where is Leicester?
What is Diwali?
What do people do in their homes for Diwali?
In Pairs, ask and answer questions about a personal celebration of your country of origin.

Match the words with the pictures
Decide which of those sentences the following places:
For listening and comprehension. After having listened to the audio track, the students must:
Find three World Heritage sites in Spain or from your country. Write and explain to your classmates, what can be seen in these sites?
Unpacking a standard helps a teacher understand in depth what the purpose of a topic is, why it is important and plan how it will be imparted. Furthermore it provides the domain needed to be able to transmit to the students that information as well.
The first two minutes of the video are very aligned with the resources from Teach-Now platform. It has further information related to the Bloom Taxonomy Pyramid.
