Work!
Work!
1. Finding the Vertex~
Used b and a terms in (-b/2a) for the x-term of vertex.
-14/-2 = 14/2 = 7
x= 7
Used x = 7 in equation to get y.
y= -(7)^2 + 14(7) - 24
y= -49 + 98 - 24
y= 25
Vertex: (7,25)
Equation: y= -x^2 + 14x - 24
2. Graphing the Parabola
Made a Table
Using the numbers around the vertex, the table went from 0-14 for x and 2- 12 for y.
Plotted the points and drew the connection.
Work!
Black Bird has a table!
1. Finding the Vertex
Found the two closest values.
Found the greatest y-value.
2. Finished the table
Repeated the opposite value of
vertex (axis of symmetry).
3. Graphed the Parabola
Plot the points on the table
Drew the connection line.
Work!
Work!
Equation: y= -x^2 + 16x - 13
1. Finding the Vertex
Used b and a terms for (-b/2a)
-16/-2
x= 8
Used f(8)=-x^2 + 16x - 13
y= -(8)^2 + 16(8) - 13
y= -64 + 128 - 13
y= 51
Vertex= (8, 51)
2. Graphing the Parabola
Create a Table
Used surrounding values of 8 and used it in the equation for the y-values.
Plot points in the table onto graph
Drew connection line.
Awards
Which bird was the highest flying?
White Bird
Which bird traveled the longest?
Black Bird
Who hit the King Piggy
Black Bird
Who hit the Mustache Piggy?
Yellow Bird
Questions?
Blue Bird
Given a word problem with the points (10,0) and (36,0) as roots and (23, 18) as the vertex.
1. Graphing the Parabola
Took the points given in word problem and plotted them onto the plane.
Connected the points.
Given the graph
1. Finding the Vertex
Found the x-coordinate with a ruler
Equally dividing the space in between the intervals given
Found the y-coordinate with a ruler
