Record Keeping
Persian record keeping is neat. Only scribes
(people that specialized in writing) wrote,
and they wrote cuneiform on clay tablets. The tool
the scribes used to write is a stylus. A stylus is a
sharpened reed that makes wedge shaped
marks. Persians also made the 1st charter of human
rights. Persian record keeping tells us about the
past.
Traits of Their Culture
The Persians bred cattle as well as horses. They were nomadic people and spoke Farsi, Aramaic, and old Persian. Sadly, in Persia, sons were preferred over daughters. The common religion was Zoroatrian. The Persian New Year was a day called Norouz.
Rise and Fall of the Empire
Rise:
Cyrus the Great took over lands around Persia and united them to make an empire. Persia was established by the Great Achaemenid Kings. Persia became unified in 522 B.C.
Ancient Persian Windmill
Fall:
Sadly, Persia was defeated at Gaugamela around 300 B.C. Persia lasted until it was overthrown by the Greeks. Persia fell to the second Babyloian and Median Empires.
Cyrus The Great
Cyrus was a great king. He lead swift deadly attacks.Cyrus treated subjects equally,if they payed their taxes. He also saw himself as a liberator. Cyrus conquered neighboring lands, therefore making a really big empire.Cyrus even had a son named Camlbyses! Although Cyrus was a great king, he was very violent. Sadly, he was killed in a battle in 530 b.c. However, Darius the great became king when Cyrus died. Darius did not allow the use of slaves.Cyrus and Darius indeed were terrific kings.

Did you know that nomadic people settled in Persia first, before it became an empire?
Four great kings created the Persian empire.
The Persian empire lasted about 250 years and was the biggest empire.
Persia is in modern day Iran.
Specialized workers did many things. They produced much decorative art like pottery. Also, they farmed land. Slaves, landlords, merchants, soldiers, and labourers were all jobs at the time of the Persians. All of these workers were paid in wine and grain.
