Jasjeet's Food Diary
The above picture is a company called fair trade which basically means that the farmers produce the item gets a fair amount of money
As homework Mr Strydom asked us to work on a food diary. This was from Monday 15th to Monday 22nd 2014. During this we learned the difference between unhealthy food and healthy food so that we know what is good for us to eat and whats not good.
Food diary: A food diary is a diary in which the foods consumed by one is recorded.

Types of dietary groups
Environmentally friendly: The term environmentally friendly means not harmful to the environment. e.g.free range eggs is nicer to chickens-to the environment.
Another example is apples, the ones that are grown in this country are produced freshly due to the fact it didn't need to travel that far. Things that are brought form another country can get damaged on the way of travel and begin to lose all of it's nutrients. Also before people send some fruit they put a spray on it so that the fruit is okay to eat once it reaches the destination but the spray that they use has many chemicals inside it which can effect the fruit.
Why be healthy?
Research has shown those that if you consume healthier food options you end up living for a longer time period and do many things in ease. However those that decide McDonald, Burger king and pizza is better find that everyday things: walking, running are tiring.
Also eating healthy means you don't feel that 'icky' feeling. It makes you feel good inside and outside.
In addition you can still enjoy your favorite food items but with a healthy twist: whole grain pizza. This means your favorite food will be enjoyed, but you will still be healthy. Also white bread has been proven to be more unhealthy compared to brown bread.
This picture is a picture of hens, above are free to experience freedom however some hens do not therefore they are not happy. Free range is better and happier to the environment. They produce happy eggs.

In my opinion, my diet was not very healthy due to many causes. This was because I didn't consume fruit and veg's regularly however I did have alot of protein and calcuim in my diet. In order to make my diet more healthy I would eat less sugar.

There are five main food
There are five main food groups:
fruit and veg
The size they are on the plate below is how much you should eat of the food everyday. Sometimes a product crosses over two or more groups however they always have a main one. Instead of 5 a day doctors are encouraging people to eat 7 a day since people are becoming unhealthier day by day. They have increased the amount of fruit because people believe that our bodies need more fiber which is found in many fruits also are bodies need lots of nutrition which is also found in fruits so this is why on the eat well plate fruit and veg is the most.

Animal welfare is when animals do not face experiences of which would give them problems.
In my opinion, I believe that could eat more fruits to be healthy since I have eaten less than 5 a day. I barely ate 1 fruit per day and sometimes I ate none (no fruit at all).
The way I could improve my diet is that could eat a more variety of calcium.
The Raw Food Diet, or Raw Foodism, involves consuming foods and drinks which are not processed, are completely plant-based, and ideally organic.
Raw foods generally say that at least three-quarters of your food intake should consist of uncooked food. A significant number of raw foods are also vegans - they do not eat or drink anything which is animal based.
There are four main types of raw food raw vegetarians, raw vegans, raw omnivores, and raw carnivores. These all consume under other types of food such as raw carnivores

Raw food diet
Organic foods are produced using methods of organic farming. Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as organic within their borders. In the context of these regulations, organic food is food produced in a way that complies with organic standards set by national governments and international organizations. Organic food production is a heavily regulated industry, distinct from private gardening.
While the organic standard is defined differently in different jurisdictions, in general organic farming responds to site-specific farming and crop conditions by integrating cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers are not allowed, although certain organically approved pesticides may be used under limited conditions. In general, organic foods are also not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives.
Local food or the local food movement is a "collaborative effort to build more locally based, self-reliant food economies - one in which sustainable food production, processing, distribution, and consumption is integrated to enhance the economic, environmental and social health of a particular place."
It is not solely a geographical concept. A United States Department of Agriculture publication explains local food as "related to the distance between food producers and consumers," as well as "defined in terms of social and supply chain characteristics

Raw Food Diet
In the following two slides there will be information about what we cooked/are going to cook. It will have information on the recipe; ingredients. One is sweet and the other is savory. Sweet was done by Ria and savory by me (Jasjeet).
This will show the skills and ideas that we have learnt over the term of technology. We have used a recipe from school and developed and changed certain ingredients to make this work such as from scone based pizza we changed it to mini pizza and from carrot muffins into Blueberry Mini Cakes.
Sweet- Mini Blueberry Cakes

250g plain flour
250g caster sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
225g fresh blueberries
300g Self raising flour (wholemeal)
50g Butter or block margarine
4tbsp tomato puree
150g Grated Cheese
1 green pepper

1. Line a baking tray with
baking paper, set oven to 210°C and
2. Cut margarine into cubes and put into
3. Rub fat into flour until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
4. Add salt, pepper, herbs & cheese
1.Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease and flour a muffin tin or line with paper cases. Sieve flour, baking powder and salt together and set aside.
2.Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Add milk and flour mixture. Beat until combined. Stir in blueberries.
3.Spill mixture onto the paper of tray and spread evenly.
4.Line baking tray with the cakes. Bake at 180 C / Gas 4 for 25 to 30 minutes.
5.Cut out shapes with butter knife.
5. Add the milk and mix to a dough using a table knife. If the mixture is too dry add more liquid. 6. Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead for 1 minute.
7. Roll into a circle and place on baking tray.
8. Spread with tomato puree.
9. Top with ½ of the grated cheese, remaining ingredients, & finish with other ½ of the cheese.
10. Bake for 20-30 minutes.

In conclusion we have learned about environmentally friendly products and how they help the environment.
Testing of product:
WWW: During the testing to see if it went well. I believe my testing went well because I worked quietly. Also I was taking my time and I believe I focused and concentrated.
EBI: The time in the oven could of been longer so next time I could of put the pizza in for a bit longer to about 25 min- 30 min to make it more delicious. I need to increase the amount of each ingredients that into the pizza.
Blue berry muffins
WWW: I think my what went well is that the mixture was light and fluffy so it expanded and was delicious to eat. Also the amount of each product was amazing and went well with the recipe (unlike most recipes). In addition I the colour of my cake was perfect- a nice golden colour.
EBI: The presentation of my product wasn't as good as some mixture fell out of the muffin cases therefore I have decided to make it into a cake type thing (tried at home).
