Hate List Soundtrack
Transcript of Hate List Soundtrack
I chose "Stay Together For the Kids" by Blink-182 to describe Valerie's parents. In the song it says, "What stupid poem could fix this home, I'd read it everyday". Valerie doesn't want her parents to split because she thinks it's her fault. Then it says, "You gave it all away" which explains that her dad doesn't want her or her mom in his life. The song is slow and sad. Valerie's family is slowly falling apart and they can't keep it together.
Valerie gets threatened at the party so I chose the song "Back Against the Wall" by Cage the Elephant. In the song it says, "I'm stuck here in between the shadows of my yesterday" this goes with this part because Val keeps getting reminded of what happened, even though she tries to forget it. Then it says, "I ain't got no other place to hide". Valerie wants to leave the party, but she doesn't know where to go.
Hate List Soundtrack
The shooting causes conflict for Valerie. I chose the song "Time Bomb" by All Time Low for this part because it says, "like a crash, the whole thing spun out of control" and Valerie wasn't expecting it to happen and she tried to stop Nick, but she couldn't. Also it says, "Just two kids, stupid and fearless" which shows that Nick and Val didn't know what they were doing with the hate list, but they didn't really care. It also goes with the book because it's a fast paced song and the shooting happened so quickly because no one was expecting it.
Throughout the story, a lot pf people thinks that Valerie should have died in the shooting. She kind of feels this way too, so I chose the song "Drown" by Bring Me the Horizon because it says, "What doesn't kill you, makes you wish you were dead". It also says, "The loneliness is haunting me" which describes Val because she feels lonely because Nick is gone and her friends ignore her. Then in the song it says, "Who will fix me now?" and I think this shows that Valerie didn't know who to turn to because everyone thought she was guilty.
The song "The End of All Things" by Panic! at the Disco goes with the book because in the lyrics it says, "Whether near or far, I am always yours" this explains how Val feels because she has to get over Nick, but she knows that she'll never forget about him. Then it says, "In these coming years many things will change". Valerie will just carry on with her life and leave her problems behind.
I chose the song "Zombie" by The Cranberries to represent Valerie. It says, "But you see, it's not me, it's not my family" which describes how Valerie wasn't guilty. Then it says, "It's the same old theme since 1916" this shows that when Valerie went back to school she thought that everything would be different, but everything was pretty much the same
The Song "St. Patrick" by Pvris goes with the book because Valerie's mom didn't like Nick, but Valerie didn't see anything wrong with him. In the song it says, "I think you're a saint, I think you're an angel". Then later in the song it says, "I know you're gone now, but I still wait for you". This goes with the book because for a while Valerie can't get over Nick. The song is kind of a love song which I think it would be Val's way of telling Nick that she still loves him.
The song "Attack" by 30 Seconds to Mars goes with the book because it's a very angry song and Valerie and Nick were mad at the people that bullied them. Also, in the lyrics it says, "A new day is coming" which goes along with Nick planning the shooting because he's just trying to make everything better. Then it says, "Run away, I'll attack". This represents Nick going crazy and shooting everyone. Finally, it says, "Without you I can finally see". Eventually, Valerie realizes what happened and that Nick wasn't that great of a person.
I think the song "Keep on Keeping on" by Travie McCoy relates to the book because it's an uplifting song. Valerie gets help and starts to feel better. She also finds an outlet for her emotions, which is painting. In the song it says, "Raised in a broken home" this goes along with Valerie's family and how they don't all like each other. Also it says, "The hard work payed off". Valerie takes a while to feel comfortable with the other kids at school, but then she helps with a project and in the end she feels a lot better.
