Transcript of What is Theme?

What is Theme?
-A message or point an author is making about some aspect of life through a story.
-The "life lesson of the story"
*The theme is universal, so it should not mention specific characters, places, or aspects of the story.

*A theme for a story about Johnny's journey to make the varsity football team:
NOT: “Football is hard work”
INSTEAD: “Hard work pays off”

*To develop a strong theme, ask yourself,

-Sometimes theme can be a word or concept, like
"Friendship."
-But more often theme is a specific sentence, like
"Friendship lasts through thick and thin."
"What am I
learning about
life?"
