Larry Mullen Jr. created the band in 1976 in Dublin, Ireland when he was only 14! At the time The Edge was 15 and Bono and Adam Clayton were 16. The reason they chose the name "U2" is because the band hated the name.
They got their first recording contract by winning a talent show in Limerick. The prize was €500 and recording contract for CBS Ireland, a record label. This brought U2 to new heights.

Bono is a Irish singer/songwriter. He was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. He was born on 10 May 1960. Bono was 14 when his mother died on 10 September 1974 at her father's funeral. Many U2 songs, including "I Will Follow", "Mofo", "Out of Control", "Lemon", and "Tomorrow", focus on the loss of his mother. Bono is married to Alison Hewson, the couple has four children: daughters Jordan born10 May 1989 and Memphis Eve born 7 July 1991 and sons Elijah Bob Patricius Guggi born 17 August 1999 and John Abraham born 20 May 200.

Adam Clayton was born in 1960 in Ireland, like the other members of U2. He was the bass player in the band and managed the band at first until they got a more experienced manager, Alex Guinness. He and The Edge were friends growing up in Dublin. When he first joined the band, he did not even know how to play the bass!!! He didn't even have lessons until 1995.After, he did the famous Mission Impossible theme. He was widely praised in 2009 for his playing on their 12th album, No Line On The Horizon.
The Edge's real name is David Howell Evans. He is most known as the guitarist, backing vocalist, and keyboardist of U2. He has released one solo record. He also played guitar for the soundtracks to the musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Rolling Stone magazine placed him at number 38 on its list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" He also created the theme song for season one and two of The Batman!!
Larry Mullen Jr. was born in Dublin, like the rest of U2. He founded the band in September 1976, when the other members met in his basement. When they originally signed to CBS Records, CBS wanted to fire Larry. The rest of the group disagreed, so Mullen could stay. He later became for involved in writing the songs. He also occasionally played keyboards in a few songs.
In 1996, Bono and his family were shot at by police in Jamaica when they mistook their plane for one carrying drugs!!!
Bono was in New Orleans celebrating his 2001 Grammy wins, when he accidentally drank red wine, which makes him drowsy. He was found passed out in the mens room!!!
