-Theme is important because it helps show the closeness of the community of Maycomb and shows progression or foreshadowing of characters What is Compassion? Compassion is a deep awareness of the suffering of another person with the wish to relieve it. C) Connect your theme to our modern world. Is your theme relevant to our world? -Jem and Scout show compassion to Dill when they discover he ran away from home.
-Atittcus shows compassion for Tom Robinson by defending him in court.
-The neighbourhood shows compassion for Ms.Maudie when her house burned down.
-Compassion is reflected in our society when a tragic event happens in our world
-Ex.Haiti earthquake 2010
-Family and friends show compassion for each other in hard times D) Find examples of this theme in another story or and show similarities and differences between how the two themes are revealed and impact their stories. -Dallis from the story “The Outsiders” shows compassion for Johnny by trying to steer him away from having a bad life like he had. He mentions in at Dairy Queen after he picks up Pony Boy and Johny from the church they are hiding in.
-Simon helping Jesus carry the cross as a sign of his compassion for Jesus.
-Melinda from the story speak tells her secret to everyone. Compassion -Atticus representing Robinson during the trail shows he is a compassionate man as he knew he was innocent and that no one else would be willing to take on that job.
-The jury also showed compassion towards Robinson as they all acknowledged his innocence even though they convicted him based on race.
-A third act of compassion took place when Scout invited hungry Walter Cunningham over to their house for lunch.
-One of the main things that proved Atticus was a compassionate man is when he told Jem and Scout that “you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." (page 30)
