Delirium- Prognosis Dementia the goal of treatment is to control or reverse the cause of the symptoms
treatment depends on the condition causing delirium Treatment Causes Precentage of How many people or affected Symptoms Causes sudden severe confusion and rapid changes in brain function that occur with physical or mental illness Delirium Amnestic Delirium, Dementia, and Amnestic Cognitive Disorders: sudden severe confusion and rapid changes in brain function that occur with physical or mental illness. acute conditions that cause delirium may occur with chronic disorders that cause dementia. Delirium often lasts only about a week although it takes several weeks for mental function to return normal. Affects 15-20% of hospitalized people aged 70 or older an overall term that describes a range of symptoms associated with a decline in a memory or thinking skills. structural or chemical damage to parts of the brain A group of disorders that involvr loss of the ability to create new memories, or loss of the ability to learn new information Changes in alertness
changes in feelings and perception
changes in movement
confusion aout time or place Physical or mental illness and is usually temporary
alcohol or sedative drug withdrawal
drug abuse
electrolyte or other body disturbances
infections such as urinary tract infections or pneumonia
