Transcript of Copy of Insect Repellent from Lemon grass Extract (Cymbopogon flexuo
This study entitled Garlic (Allium sativum) and Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) as Insect repellant is aimed to know the insecticidal effect of Allium sativum and Cymbopogon citratus on mosquitoes in terms of:
How effective is the Garlic (Alium sativum) and Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus)?
The lemon grass and garlic extract can be an effective natural insect repellant.
The lemon grass and garlic extract cannot be an effective insect repellant.
Significance of the Study
Study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of lemon grass and garlic extract as natural insect repellent. The children will benefit the most because of the knowledge of insect repellent that enable them to prevent possible disease.
Investigatory Project by Group 5 of Grade 9-Silver
Insect repellents are important public health tools for the prevention of vector-borne infectious diseases. Technically, an insect repellent is any chemical or natural, that causes insects or other arthropods to make directed, oriented movements away from the source of repellent. And lemon grass can use as natural insect repellent (Helmenstine, 2011).
Statement of the Problem
Background of the Study
The general objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness of lemon grass as a natural insect repellent.
Scope and Limitations
This project tackles on making a insect repellent that is made up of natural ingredients that is not harmful to human health. Our project also tackles the protection of human beings against mosquito bites that cause diseases.

Lemon grass oil, used as a pesticide and preservative, is put on the ancient palm-leaf manuscripts found in India as a preservative. It is used at the Oriental Research Institute Mysore, the French Institute of Pondicherry, the Association for the Preservation of the Saint Thomas Christian Heritage in Kerala, and many other manuscript collections in India.
Garlic can be used to repel a variety of crawling and flying insects, including mosquitoes,” according to Patrick Parker , SavATree Plant Health Care Program Director. One treatment with garlic is effective for 2 weeks and can repel insects for up to one month.
The primary ingredient is the Cymbopogon which is commonly known as lemongrass (250mL). Second is the garlic extract (15mL) which is mixed together with the juice from the lemongrass. Lastly is the Eucalyptus oil (5mL) and the Olive oil (10mL).
Peel the skin of the garlic, chop the garlic into small pieces using mortar & pestle.
Mix the eucalyptus oil and olive oil. And mix it! Prepare an empty Insect sprayer. Transfer the mixture to the insect sprayer bottle. And there you go, an Insect Repellant made of Lemongrass.
Boil the Lemon grass. While waiting for the lemon grass to be boiled... add water to the chopped garlic and mix.
Distill the garlic to get the extract. Seperate the lemon grass from its extract. Pour the lemon grass extract to a glass, and mix it with the garlic extract.

Results and Discussion
Summary, Conclusion, Recommendation
In this project the researchers have formulated an organic insect repellant. The researchers found out that the more amount of garlic extract, eucalyptus oil, and olive oil, the more stinky, the more it is effective as an insect repellant.
The hypothesis was right. Lemon grass can repel insect away and can be an effective and alternative way of natural insect repellant.
Based on the conducted experiment, the researchers recommend the following for further improvements. To make it more effective, suggest that there would be longer minutes of boiling. The researchers also recommend to add more garlic extract because of its strong smell that mosquitoes avoid.
