Conclusion
Purpose:
The purpose for doing this lab is to compare the chemical cleaners La’s Totally Awesome Cleaner with bleach, 409 All Purpose Cleaner and Quick N Brite with the natural cleaners Thieves and Oils 101 amazing All Purpose cleaner, a household cleaner, by making 3 different stains in a piece of carpet with grape wine, chlorophyll and ketchup to see which cleans the stains the fastest with the least amount of sprays and scrubs and how well they clean the stains.
Observations: Before applying solutions

Hour 3

Hypothesis:
Observations After:
Feeling of carpet compared to before and description of color left
Graphs:
I think that Thieves will clean better than the others because it is made of a mixture of natural existing chemicals, not synthetic made chemicals.
Procedure:
**Safety Note: Working With Harmful Chemicals**

1. Vacuum carpet front and back.

2. Tape out a grid of 3 by 5 as shown in diagram 1.

3. Measure 1 teaspoon of ketchup dump onto one square

4. Use a circular motion to spread it out continue for all 5 across as shown in diagram 2.

5. Rinse measuring spoon.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for wine and chlorophyll use a cup to pour into to have easier access for the measuring spoon.

7. Let sit for 1 hour to soak in.

Procedure Continued:

8. Spray Thieves once on ketchup and scrub with a sock for 10 seconds with a constant amount of pressure as shown in diagram 3. Repeat until spot can no longer disappear or is gone. Record how many times you repeated spraying and scrubbing and record observations.

9. Repeat with La’s Totally Awesome with bleach, 409 All Purpose Cleaner, Quick N Brite, and Oils 101 Amazing All Purpose Cleaner. Using a new sock each time.

10. Then repeat steps 6 and 7 for the wine and chlorophyll.

11. Wait 20 minutes.

12. Repeat steps 8-10 a second time and record results.

13. Clean up.

Observations:
Number of repetitions to clean the spot 1st time
Number of repetitions to clean the spot 2nd time

Data:
Tape
3x5 grid
Garbage bags
Ketchup
Teaspoon
Circular Motion
Used socks
Scrubbing back
and forth
Softer because the carpet was not worked through at the beginning it was very packed down walked on.
Research:
Antioxidant capacity is measured by ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity). Clove oil has an astounding ORAC rating of over 10 million. Most other antioxidants are rated in the tens of thousands to a maximum of a few hundred thousand at best.

La's did the best with the chlorophyll
Thieves did the best with the ketchup and wine

With an average of 7 sprays and scrubs La's totally awesome did the best with the Chlorophyll with 4 on the remaining scale.
Based on my research No one has done a similar project and posted it online therefore finding information was difficult.
Ingredients:
My Hypothesis was correct Thieves was the over all best cleaner because it had the least remaining with a 2 for ketchup and wine and for chlorophyll, thieves had the second least with a 5. It also Cleaned quickly only a total of 5 scrubs for the ketchup the first time 6 for the wine and 12 for the chlorophyll.
Thieves cleaned overall the best.

How Stain Removers Work
Dissolve the stain in a solvent.
This is basically how dry cleaning works. The rule is "like dissolves like": pick a solvent that is similar to your stain, and you can wash the stain out.
Dissolve the stain using a surfactant.
Surfactants allow water to wet fabrics better, and they can surround molecules in a stain and carry them into solution.
Soap is a surfactant; so are the sulfonates listed in the ingredients for many spot removers and carpet cleaners. A surfactant molecule contains long hydrocarbon tail with a small polar head. The hydrocarbon tail of the soap molecules surround (dissolve) grease, while the polar ends dissolve in water; the net result is that the grease/soap complex is water soluble and gets washed away. This process is called 'emulsification'.
Eat the stain.
Oxidizing agents like chlorine bleach, peroxides, and borax attack the links that hold some long-chain organic molecules in stains together. The little fragments that are left are water-soluble, and they wash away.
Some cleaning agents contain enzymes that speed up reactions that digest proteins or fats in stains.
Hide the stain
Some detergents contain 'whiteners' that whiten the fabric and do nothing to clean! They contain a material that absorbs ultraviolet light and re-emits it as visible light. Get a black light shine it on your clothes in a darkened room; if your laundry detergent contains whiteners, your clothes will glow!
