The study will be conducted from the month of March- Augusts 2015. The study will utilize a survey questioner as the main data gathering instrument.
Objective of the Study
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of video- assisted teachings in the treatment compliance among Tuberculosis clients at Santa Lucia Health Center, Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur.

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents?
2. What is the level of treatment compliance among Tuberculosis client?
3. What is the importance of the treatment compliance among Tuberculosis client?
4. What is the effectiveness of video- assisted teaching in the treatment compliance among Tuberculosis clients?
5. Is there any significant relationship between effectiveness of video-assisted teachings in treatment compliance among Tuberculosis clients?
In Public Health Nursing in the Philippines Textbook page 240 it is stated that in the Philippines, tuberculosis ranks sixth in the leading cause of morbidity (2002) and mortality (2002). The estimated incidence rate of all Tuberculosis case in the Philippines is 243/100,000 population/year (WHO Report 2006). The country ranks ninth among the 22 high burdened countries under the WHO watch list. EFFECTIVENESS OF VIDEO-ASSISSTED TEACHING IN TREATMENT COMPLIACE AMONG TUBERCULOSIS CLIENTS AT SANTA LUCIA HEALTH CENTER, PAGADIAN CITY
According to Brunner and Suddarth’s textbook of Medical- Surgical Nursing, Twelfth Edition page 628, Tuberculosis is an infectious disease primarily affecting the lung parenchyma, is most often caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It may spread to almost any part of the body, including the meninges, kidney, bones, and lymph nodes. The infection usually occurs 2 to 10 weeks after exposure. The client may then develop active disease because of a compromised or inadequate immune system response. The active process may be prolonged and characterized by long remissions when the disease is arrested, only to be followed by periods of renewed activity. Tuberculosis is a worldwide public health problem that is closely associated with poverty, malnutrition, overcrowding, substandard housing, and inadequate health care. Mortality and morbidity rates continue to rise.
Null: There is no effect in the treatment compliance among Tuberculosis clients at Sta. Lucia Health Center, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur
Alternative: There is effect in the treatment compliance among Tuberculosis clients at Sta Lucia Health Center, Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur.
Video provides a means of interactive instruction and is a very flexible medium. Having the ability to stop, start, and rewind is absolutely invaluable. It provides the option to stop each video and challenge the students to predict the outcome of demonstration, and elaborate on, or debate a point of historical reference. You can ensure to add further interactivity by copying activities, conducting discussions or repeating demonstrations and experiments. Research has demonstrated that the most effective way to use video is an enhancement to a lesson, or unit of study. Video should be used as a facet of instruction along with other resource material available to you for teaching a particular topic.
In medicine, compliance (also adherence, capacitance) describes the degree to which a patient correctly follows medical advice. Most, common, it refers to medication or drug compliance, but it can also apply to other situations such as medical device, self care, self-directed exercises, or therapy sessions. Both the patient and the health-care provider affect compliance, and a positive physician-patient relationship is the most important factor in improving compliance, although the high cost of prescription medication also plays a major role.
The study will be conducted at Pagadian City in the province of Zamboanga del Sur. It has a total land area of 33,380 hectares, which composes of 13 urban Barangays and 41 rural Barangays in total of 54 barangays and has an overall population of 161, 312 for censual year 2007.
The chosen barangay will be ideal since it has a health center. The Barangay Santa Lucia Main Health Center is located at Marcelo Dablo Avenue, Pagadian City with a total population of 9,612 as of censual year 2007 and which composed of 20 puroks
Research respondents of this study will be the clients from the total population for the TB DOTS (Tuberculosis Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course) in the Sta. Lucia Health Center Facility. The following shows the criteria of the respondents to be applicable in this study:
had undergone at least two (2) months treatment of TB DOTS
an educational attainment with at least elementary graduate
Drop out Criteria
not a tuberculosis client
was not able to undergone the two (2) months TB DOTS treatment
was not able to graduate at least elementary level
This chapter presents the following area of concern: research design, research respondents or subjects, sampling design, research setting, data gathering procedures and statistical analysis.
The study uses the descriptive-exploratory design.
Research Respondents or Subjects
The study utilized a purposive sampling design. The survey questionnaire which gather necessary data and information after the video assisted teaching. The responses of the questions are categorized as Yes and No. The survey questionnaire will be translated into local dialect for easy comprehension of the respondents.
In order to attain the goal of the study, the researchers will prepare a video presentation. The video contains about the definition of the disease, signs and symptoms and the treatment of TB DOTS (Tuberculosis Direct Observed Treatment Short-Course) on Health Centers. The video will be downloaded from the internet specifically from youtube.com and the researchers shall have a follow up lecture during or after the video to be translated in Visayan language for the client to be able to understand thoroughly the topic of the video.
A courtesy call was done to allow the researchers to preside a preliminary analysis before committing into the study fully. The researchers formulated a communication letter asking for permission which is to be approved by the Program Coordinator of the Department of Nursing to be able to conduct outside the J.H. Cerilles State College Pagadian Campus premise. The researchers secured a permission to the City Health Office and to the head of the Barangay Sta. Lucia Health Center to secure raw data about the TB (tuberculosis) client within their limited range of area.
Data Gathering Procedure
To analyze and interpret the data, descriptive statistics will determine its percentage. Percent (%) is originated from the Latin phrase “per centum” which means by the hundred. Hence, when we say “ten percent of the students failed in math”, means 10 out of 100 students failed.
