period: 1/2 Sally Ride was the first american woman to go into space. Sally Ride was important to the society because she started an educational program called Sally Ride Science. Sally Kristen Ride was born on May 26, 1951. She grew up in Encino, California, with her mom(Dale), dad(Joyce), and her younger sister Karen. As a young girl Sally loved science and was very interested in nature. She grew up playing with a chemistry set and telescope. Ride was an athlete and loved playing tennis. At the age of 15 she went to Westlake school for girls where she got a tennis scholarship. She competed in national junior tennis tournaments Sally was a national ranked junior tennis player. She graduated from Westlake High School. Character Traits Strong character traits Sally Ride possesses are being:
-brave(fighting a 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer)
-intelligent(earned a masters and bachelors degree)
- hardworking(she worked hard to become the first women in space)
How the traits impacted or defined their leadership? These traits have impacted or defined Ride's leadership by becoming what she is now, an astronaut, the first woman in space. The End of Sally's Life Sally Ride retired from NASA in 1987. After retiring, she became a physics professor at the University of California. Sally died on July 23, 2012, at the age of 61 following a 17th month battle with pancreatic cancer. Why she should be regarded as a moral leader ship? Ride should be regarded as a moral leader because she changed society for the young girls and women, she also showed them that you can do anything you want no matter what.
