Transcript of Maya, Aztec, Inca

Maya They carved glyphs into stone. Mayas are a Mesoamerican civilization. They settled in other Central American regions like Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize, and Western Honduras. Mayas grew many crops like maize (corn), beans, squash, and cocoa Their books were called folding tree books because they made their books from figg tree bark. The Mayas downfall is unknown but many people think that it might of been from soil exhaustion, water loss, erosion, disease, tornados, earthquakes, or an invasion. When they built their tombs they made the entrences look like a monster's mouth. The Mayan group lasted over 3,000 years. Most Mayans could speak over 30 different languages, but most of them spoke Spanish. Mayan kings wanted famous art so they could have their own place in history. Inca Incas separated their land into 4 quarters but the center of their land was called Cuzco which was their capital. Only nobles were allowed to live in Cuzco because it was a Holy City. When a royal person died they preserved his/her body in ice in which is now the Andes Mountains. The Incas had a very violent punishment system. If someone stole or murdered they were given the choice of either being thrown off of a cliff, having their hands and eyes cut out, or being hung and stareved to death. The Inca people turned steep mountains into terraces. Squash and potatoes were cultiveted by the Inca people. Llamas and alpacas were raised by Incas for food and for work. A few of the Incas statues are still standing in nearly- perfect condition. Out of all of the ancient people, the Incas were the most skilled in medicine and surgery. Inca people spoke Quechua. The Incas didn't have any type of writing system Aztec The Aztecs lived in highlands of Mesoamerica. Aztecs hunted rabbits, snakes, armadillos, deer, pumas, and coyotes. They grew cocoa, vanilla, bananas, squash, pumpkin, beans, chilis, tobacco, onions, red tomatoes, green tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and maize. Many Aztecs lived in Central America. Sometimes the Aztec would call themselves 'Mexica' because they settled in Mexico. Aztecs were very religious so they lived their whole life to please their gods. The women of the Aztecs were responsible for food and clothing. Aztec art was based around their religion and warfare. They made special paper out of tree bark. During ceremonies they wore colorful masks as a tribute to their gods. Their pottery was important to them also. They made pots by layering strips of clay. Aztecs performed music and dance as a way of pleasing their gods. The Aztecs thought that if they made a mistake while playing a musical instrument that it was offensive to their gods. Dancing was one of their prayer-like rituals. Sometimes their dances expressed political, social, and cultural issues. Aztec made tattoos on people by cutting anything on them with a pointed rock.
