The 9th Tuesday How Love Goes on Mitch learns that love is
more important than
material wealth Family and friends are
more important then career
and wealth "when you're in bed, you're dead" - Morrie "If i worried about being forgotten after I died?" - Morrie A teacher to the last "I believe in being fully present. That
means you should be with the person you're with." - Morrie "...everyone is in such a hurry. People haven't found meaning in their lives, so they're running all the time looking for it." - Morrie a promise to his children... The 10th Tuesday Marriage "I had gotten used to attending weddings, congratulating the couple, and feeling only mild surprise when i saw the groom a few years later sitting in a restaurant with a younger women." - Mitch "...a loved one is so important. You realize that especially when you're in a time like I am, when you're not doing so well." - Morrie "If you don't respect the other person...
If you don't know how to compromise...
If you can't talk openly about what goes on...
If you don't have a common set of values in your life...
...You're gonna have a lot of trouble"
-Morrie but the biggest value of them all is... "Your belief in the importance of marriage." "Love each other or perish." The 11th Day - Culture "What is love?" - Haddaway "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves."
-- 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 "The inheritant good of people" "People are only mean when they are threatened
and that's what our culture does. That's what our
economy does" "Here's what I mean about building your own little subculture...
The little things I can obey. But the big things--- how we think,
what we value--- those you must choose yourself. You can't let
anyone--- or any society---determine these for you. "The way to do it, I think, isn't to run away." "You have to work at creating your own culture." "Every society has its own problem." We all have the same beginning---birth--- and we all have the same end---death. So how different can we be? "In the beginning of life, when we are infants , we need others to survive, right? And at the end of life, when you get like me, you need others to survive, right? But here's the secret: in between, we need others as well." "What's wrong with being number two?"
