match the position of Cultural Affairs Assistant. I am convinced that, given the chance, I could bring to the role a unique combination of creativity and excellent people skills. MAGDALENA STEPIEN
“Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you to leave this world better than when you found it...”
- Wilfred Peterson
I am a Warsaw University graduate and my degree is in English. In September 2008 I did my internship with the Polish Embassy in Dublin, Ireland. It was my responsibility to assist the Deputy Head of Mission in his work. This included attending briefings, preparing reports, arranging appointments, and translating documents. Since my work at the Embassy was very rewarding and my performance was highly appraised, I am seeking to hold a similar position in future. To this end I attended the Academy of Young Diplomats. I have also started a postgraduate course in International Law and Foreign Service. I am a well-organized person who can effectively direct her activities toward the achievement of objectives. I am convinced I fulfil my job responsibilities in an active and professional way. The office I currently work in acts as an intermediary between academics and various units of the University and thus my job involves constant communication with others. Since my main duty is to assist researchers in managing EU-funded project in all its phases (negotiations, budget planning and executing), the position requires customer focus as well as good problem solving skills. The volume of documents the office deals with on a daily basis requires excellent organisational skills and an effective filing system which I have created and am responsible for. Together with my colleagues I prepared an international conference on full costing, which took place in May 2013 and gathered ninety participants. Apart from that, I organize smaller workshops at the university. I am an attentive listener, outgoing and resilient person and I am well able to respond to customer needs. I also demonstrate the ability to adapt to multicultural environments, gained though my work experience abroad (Ireland, Spain), as well as presentation skills acquired through taking part in various conferences (e.g. Gender in English Studies International Symposium, October 2012). What I would hope to gain from the role is the opportunity for meaningful participation, i.e. having opportunities for valued responsibilities, making decisions, contributing my knowledge to the team. In a workplace I value clear instructions and friendly atmosphere and I would hope to find these in the US Embassy. UNIVERSITY OF WARSAW
