General Idea: "The Joneses just got that new 80" flat screen TV, it looks really good we should go out and buy it" says the husband The Joneses Being Emotionally Satisfied
•Having a new item in the house brings joy and excitement but it always fades away
•People like The Joneses around promotes one to feel a lack of joy cause they always have the bigger better item
•Making one go out purchase the new item only to feel that lack of joy again Advertising and Teens Teens have been taught that material possessions are what matter.
Want to fit into society, and furthermore fit into the category of "cool".
Encourages teens to use materialistic values to define who they are and aren't. Some girls and young women compare their own physical attractiveness to the physical attractiveness of models in ads.
Therefore, they experience lowered self-esteem.
There is a direct relationship between the amount of media exposure that a teenager has, and the likeliness that she will develop an eating disorder. Young men in advertisements are often portrayed as having a confident, independent, or rebellious attitude.

When faced with aggressive or violent acts, attitudes such as “Boys will be boys” are one way that male violence is accepted and encouraged by society.
90% of violent crimes are committed by males. Exposure to sexual content in the media may be responsible for earlier onset of sexual intercourse or other sexual activities.
Women become objectified- only used for their bodies.

Normalization of sexual violence- it's okay to put women down to make themselves feel better and have more power. We have become so used to seeing violence against people, and women in particular, that these images don’t have the same kinds of effects that they used to have on people. The New Warriors Muscles and the "Ideal Man" These ads portray a strong, muscular body with the image of ideal manhood. Heroic Masculinity Hollywood’s glamorization of male violence. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson and Sylvestor Stallone are traditional examples of the actors who portray the violent male as an heroic ideal. Food and Advertising Emotional nourishment is linked with physical nourishment.
