Recycling
The Real World
"WE generate about
21.5

million tons
of food waste per year. If we composted that food, it would reduce the same amount of greenhouse gas as taking
2

million
cars off the road!"
Compost
Why is it important to compost?
removes compostable items from the landfills
generates nutrient rich soil that benefits agriculture

Reduce our waste to save our Earth!
A Green Planet
Our Holmes Green Team helps reduce the amount of waste put out by our school in efficient and Earth friendly ways!
Look out for our compost buckets near the lunch tables and in area 51 and near the science and math areas!
"The total energy savings in 1998 were enough to light the city the size of Pittsburgh for
10
years!"
Don't forget to recycle your lunch trays and even the plastic forks and spoons! They can make a big difference! Think twice before throwing away your trash at lunch and everywhere you go!
Keep Your Eyes Open
there are some recycling bins in your very own classrooms!
