The Crucible
an example of mob mentality from the crucible would be when abagail pretends to see an bird in court & the other girls pretends they see the bird right along with her. This is an example beacause all the girls are influenced by abagail making them act a certain way.
McCarthyism
The practice of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for evidence.
The Crucible quotes
Black Friday Overview
Ever since the start of the modern Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the Friday after Thanksgiving has been known as the unofficial start to a bustling holiday shopping season.. This is the day where most retailers have opened early and offered sales to kick off the holiday shopping season. This ties in to mass hysteria because during black friday, there are limits. Some people are not going to be able to get some of the items that are on sale. That leads to mob mentality. this occurs when some people don't get what they wont which turns into violence.
The Crucible
An example of mass hysteria would be thomas putnam. he took advantage of fear of his personal enrichment. Remember mr. putnam was the wealthy land owner. in order for him to remain wealthy he blamed any and everybody of witchcraft so he can buy their land.
Black Friday effects
during black friday, a lot of dangerous things happen like:
Fights
deaths {trampling, robberies, stampedes, and etc}.
McCarthyism is named after Joseph McCarthy. McCarthyism occurred in the united states from 1948 through 1956. The government of the united states engaged in political repression of the communist party USA, but others had suspensions. on February 9, 1950, McCarthy did a speech saying how he proclaimed that he was aware of 205 card-carrying members of the Communist Party who worked for the United States Department of State.
Effects of McCarthyism
Hard- working citizens have lost their jobs.
Those who lost their jobs were innocent people who were accused of McCarthyism.
Innocent people had to go through the trauma of being prosecuted by their own country.
Relationships were destroyed because one could never know who to trust or would turn you in.
The children of the accused were victims as well.
Abigail: It's on the beam! behind the rafter! Why--? She gulps. Why do you come yellow bird?
proctor: where's a bird? i see no bird! frantically. they're pretending! mr. danforth!
Abigail: oh please Mary! dont come down. her claws, she's stretching her claws
Proctor: lies! lies!

PUTNAM: Now look you, sir. Let you strike out against the Devil, and the village will bless you for it! Come down, speak to them- pray with them. They're thirsting for your word, Mister! Surely you’ll pray with them.
Tie It all Together
McCarthyism, the crucible, and black friday are all tie in together because fear came from all the events that happened. during McCarthyism China and the Americans begin to fear that they were surrounded by communist. The Crucible had fear about the witchcraft that was going on. They feared everyone because nobody knew who really done it so for that innocent people were being killed. during McCarthyism innocent people were losing their jobs for being blamed for something they didn't do. Black friday ties in with the crucible and McCarthyism because innocent people were hurt in all three of these events. Things got out of hands with people were caught in the moment and took actions into their own hands.
