What is Dia de Simon Bolivar? Simon Bolivar was a real person!
He was know as El Libertador. We celebrate his Birthday on July 24th (1783)..... or Es el veinticuatro de Junio. It falls on Wednesday this year, or miercoles in spanish! People still honor his victories today! Students form the colors of the colombian flag to celebrate the anniversary of his battle. ~ Simon Bolivar founded present day Venezuala and Colombia
~Wrote the constitution of Bolivia and had a country named in his honor
~Strongly believed in freedom for Spanish rule and was determined to defeat Spain Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Panama celebrate this holiday Other traditions include, ~ People visiting the plaza de Bolivar in Venezuela and the monument of Simon Bolivar in Colombia

~ There are military parades and also parades including school children

~ Banks, offices, and shops are closed on the holiday
