How does a pendulum clock work? The escapement connects to the gear trains that drives the hands chyme's and moon faze dial. Each gear train is attached to a pulley by a weight. The weight drops very slowly which turns the gears. To keep the pendulum swinging the escapement gives the pendulum just enough energy to overcome friction on each swing. When the weight's get close to the end of the chain you would have to wind it back up again to repeat the process. In conclusion that is how a pendulum clock works.
