Federal agents protect our country and its people as members of federal law enforcement agencies such as the FBI and CIA.

12:00 am – 6:00 am
Getting up and preparing for the investigative activity; meeting with members of my team; discussing assigned duties for the morning and talking about precautions.

6:00 am – 7:00 am
Executing the warrant and arresting a suspect.

7:00 am – 8:00 am
Conducting a search of the residence within the parameters of the warrant (this might include going through the items to be seized).

8:00 am – 10:00 am
Collecting evidence and packaging it properly.

10:00 am – 11:00 am
Bringing the person in custody into court.

11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Getting the person in custody an initial appearance in court.

12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Meeting with prosecutors and pre-trial services to determine whether or not there will be a bail release.

2:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Finishing the day at the courthouse sometime between 2:00 and 4:30 pm.
Applicants for special agent jobs with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) must have a bachelor’s degree with a 2.95 grade point average. Those who don’t attain this average may qualify if they have a law degree or experience conducting criminal investigations.
