Christ and culture research project
Sheena and Freddie
Why did you choose this theme?
We picked theme 2 (Why do we need one another?) because everybody had already experienced being excluded and ignored by other people and it’s not a really good feeling to be felt. We cannot afford to be alone for a long time because being isolated can damage our spirit. God created us not to be alone so it is really important to strengthen our relationship with other people. Having someone that we can rely on boosts our self-esteem because we know that we belong and we have someone we can go to whenever we have a problem.
What interested you most about this theme?
What interested us the most about this theme is Jean Vanier, a man who built thousands of building around the world for those people who has mental disabilities and has nowhere to go to.
What did you learn that you did not know before?
We learned that babies, especially those that are born prematurely, are most likely to thrive if they are touched occasionally by their parents. It is important to have a skin-to-skin contact because it makes them feel more secure.
Principle
To be a human is to be a person in relationship with other and to live in communities
How does this theme connect Christian Catholicism and culture?

God created us as social beings so we should not spend our time being alone. We have to socialize and build a strong bond with the people around us so when we face a problem, they would be there to help us out . Our families tends to stick together and associate with other people, making our community grow. A community is developed so people can help those who needed
help
and gather around to have their basic needs met.
We have to be really supportive to those people within our cultural group because we all share the same cultural identity and a healthy relationship with others also makes us strong. Solidarity is something that binds us together, so loving our neighbours is another way we communicate with God and strengthens our bonds with Him. Every act of solidarity becomes an act of communion with God. Our belief in this and our faith as a Christian draws us stronger which creates a unity between us and God.
